The Mental Health Department provides a
full range of treatment and services for individuals with mental illness
and offers assistance to families.
Intake
Personal interviews are scheduled to evaluate
an individual's initial request and need for mental health treatment
or services.
Short-Term Component
Outpatient services for individuals needing
help with a temporary situation. Treatment includes a psychiatric evaluation
and individual, group, family or marital therapy. Medication monitoring
is available.
Dual Diagnosed Component
Outpatient services for individuals with both
a mental health and mental retardation diagnosis. Therapists provide
a treatment plan which involves individuals, families and community
home staff. Group or individual therapy, psychiatric evaluation, medication
monitoring and behavioral management are provided.
Aftercare Component
Outpatient services for adults with long-term
mental health needs. Includes individuals, family or group therapy,
psychiatric evaluation and medication monitoring.
Partial Hospitalization
An acute treatment program based on a group
therapy model where individuals participate in therapy / discussion
groups, socialization activities and psychiatric evaluation. Individual
psychotherapy is also available. Initially individuals attend the program
for three to six hours each weekday, but attendance decreases according
to progress.
Mt. Lebanon Outpatient / Transitions Program
Combined program which supports individuals
who are experiencing increased difficulties. The Psychiatric Rehabilitation
component of the program includes group interventions, education and
socialization designed to stabilize individuals at risk for hospitalization.
The Outpatient component provides psychiatric evaluation, medication
monitoring, and individual, group and family therapy.
Training and Social Rehabilitation
Provides social rehabilitation through structure,
field trips, recreation, psychoeducational groups and prevocational
skills training. The Drop-In Center is an extension of the program and
provides a vehicle for community integration through participation in
special events and in-house activities. Some evening and Saturday activities
are included.
Children / Adolescent and Family Component
Outpatient services that specialize in treatment
of children 6 years of age and older. Includes individual and family
therapy, medication evaluation and treatment.
Student Assistance Program
A cooperative program between Chartiers Center
and participating schools which attempts to begin early intervention
by identifying at-risk students ages 6 and older. Identified students
can receive targeted assistance within the school. Coordination with
Chartiers' outpatient services is also available.
Residential Treatment Program
A unique program offering short-term intensive
treatment in a residential setting. The program provides an alternative
for individuals facing emergency hospitalization or for those needing
assistance in making the transition from a hospital to community living.
Outreach
A service which evaluates and monitors individuals
residing in personal care boarding homes. Cooperates with police and
churches in identifying other individuals in the community who may need
services. The Outreach Worker is available to provide community education,
staff training and in-services related to mental health issues.
Mobile Crisis
A specialized service which provides evening
and weekend crisis intervention to a specific caseload of individuals.
Efforts are made to prevent hospitalization by resolving emergency issues
and providing follow-up services.
Family Support and Educational Groups
Group intervention for family members
of individuals who are receiving psychiatric services at Chartiers
Center. Groups are conducted monthly during evening hours. >>More
