UPPER ST. CLAIR RECEIVES FIVE AEDS
(Automated External Defibrillator)

Did you know that approximately 200,000 people in the United States suffer sudden cardiac arrest every year? Of those, only 5% survive. If they receive a shock within three minutes the survival rate jumps to 72%. If they receive a shock within one minute, the survival rate is 94%.

All police cars now carry AEDs, and the FAA requires that one be on every aircraft. Having an AED in areas of the township where large numbers of residents gather could save a life. AEDs are small, portable and will only shock if the machine determines it is necessary.
