Boyce Road Gardeners
The
Boyce Road Gardeners practice organic gardening with the gardens
being located at the entrance to Boyce Mayview Park off Boyce Road.
Garden Tips
We
meet several times a year for social and informative meetings with
a speaker and refreshments. We cover a wide range of topics from
early Pennsylvania gardens and heirloom vegetables to pest management
and control.
Our newsletters are full of tips on topics such as how to plan your
garden, starting a compost pile, insect and animal control, natural
fertilizers, indoor seed starting, planting companions and compatibility,
and much more!
Garden
Fair
There
is also a judged Garden Fair in August showcasing a wide range of
vegetables, flowers, and herbs and a separate judging contest for
produce grown by children.
Swap Day
One
other activity is Swap Day, where our gardeners can change plots
if others are available and socialize before the winter sets in.
The garden plots are plowed in early November and again in early
spring and then given a finer tilling before the plots are staked
out.
Gardeners Exchange Stand
We have a gardeners exchange stand wherein excess
produce, seeds and plants, are shared among members.
Grow a Row Project
Gardeners
have the opportunity to donate extra produce to the Greater Pittsburgh
Food Bank to help the needy.
Membership
Our
Membership dues are $5 and each plot is $10 for the season which
covers the cost of the 40' x 40' plot, plowing, and mailing of our
newsletters.
